Hi Jim,
Use FAGLL03. Its SAP standard, you simply need to bring in your CC and period using the layout. Then you need to subtotal on both of them. You can also use UL function for better visual effect. After that you need to scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the little stars that will collapse the results to your desired level. No ABAP required for this.
