What do you mean by the "Business object box"? maybe attach a screen shot?
Anyhow I would start by turning on the event log (transaction SWELS to activate and SWEL to view) and seeing what happens when a contract is created. maybe there is a standard event raised.
if not I would start checking how to raise an event using change documents (SWEC) status management (BSVW) etc.
